No, seriously, although we have so much going for us media wise – particularly the great Aussie dramas we produce, and alternative bands – I’m still very fond of global imports.

The US has churned out some fantastic (and not so fantastic) series over the last few years and I just can’t get enough of British comedies.
My favourite comdians are either Australian or British.
And music, well, I go through my phases. I am loving French right now, with the sountrack to Les Chansons d’Amour on repeat.

Anyway, just to brag about what I have to look forward to, and as little rewards for every assessment piece I put away – I’m off to see Holding the Man next week, a play based on Timothy Conigrave’s best-selling memoir, it’s set in Melbourne throughout the 70s/80s. In May, a friend and I have tickets to see The Click Five, a powerpop group hailing from Boston, US. And (maybe) lastly, Wicked The Broadway Musical in August!

I couldn’t imagine a place where global imports were discouraged… I don’t think I could cope.
Damn, I’m excited.

It’s very geeky. But oh well, I read quite a few blogs, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with them all but I love knowing…just knowing things and most of the time its before it hits the news or papers. The web provides us with that service of instantaneous information and so, why not? I couldn’t recommend reading blogs enough.

Keeping a blog, on the other hand, is quite a different story. It definately involves a lot of dedication and intelligence to source all the information. Whereas some people have managed to make a career out of blogging, I don’t think I’m going to even try to go that way. I’ve had a personal blog for about 3 years now I think. It’s fun to keep a blog – another of the many ways for me to be networked to the rest of the world online (MSN, Facebook, MySpace…I’ve been sucked into them all…). Sometimes it can be like having an silent, imaginary friend but what a great way to vent your spleen! A great portion of my blog is used to complain. Ha.

Blogging and network and the WWW in general has enable global connectivity like no other. When I was on my exchange program last year, I became friends with a French girl. And while we were flicking through photos on her laptop, I saw something very familiar. It was an image I had photoshopped at home and uploaded online. I was taken aback I must say! It was an amazing coincidence that she had found something I made in Melbourne and had downloaded it in France! The point I’m trying to make is that connection to the rest of the world is important, of course not just for transferring silly pictures but we are able to find out so much more about each other through use of, for example, online news broadcasts, blogs and networking sites.
Global awareness is increasing because of technology and I for one am looking forward to what new technology will bring in the future.

NB Blogging seems to cause me… online verbal diarrhoea.

Well, woke up too early. Had to cram for the Monash Career Fair this morning so I spent two hours or so researching all these different firms that offer graduate programs for Arts students. It was pretty good. I’m disappointed that I hadn’t gone before this year! Besides all the free goods (mini-highlighter pens won hands down for best freebie), I feel a lot better about being employed next year!
